so after all this what is the outcome cause i would love to do something to the engine,
panel filter:
Cheap
Tidy (no work involved)
Hidden
Not as much air as cones
Induction kits
Look Nice
Little more money
Requires DIY which im good at
Gives a roar when flat out
so reading upon this topic a "good" induction kit would include
removal of the air box
cold air intake based below the engine near the fog lights
heat reflector for the cone
cone based above engine near cars air intake
or
same as above but...
putting the cone behind the fog light and heat reflective material around the intake pipe

cars are different.
if you want roar deffinately a cheap sports cone air filter
if you want a bit of performance panel filter
if you want even more performance, a more expensive induction kit

they would reduce the amount of heat soak the induction kit would suffer from. if i were to get one i'd get an enclosed one witha cold air feed

well sounds like bee was reading my mind ive come across what will hopefully be a little gem of an enclosed airfilter for not much at all with any luck, so with a new silicon pipe and some cable ties or some "home made" brackets i should have a nice little enclosed air filter hidden in my engine bay, only problem is what do i do with the nasty looking factory airfilter, do i keep it and paint it or do i get rid of it and my oil top up pipe looking like the leaning tower of pizza, hmmmm..... help please

In honesty, there's a lot of R&D gone into the design of the vehicle's standard airbox. Why not then drop a K&N panel in there?
Million mile warranty, and only need cleaning every 50,000 miles or so.
If you want induction roar, drop a couple of holes in the (non engine) side of the airbox, on the "dirty air" side. Job done
