GUIDE - Downloading Using Bittorrents was created by Chris CW
Get yourself a Bittorrent program such as Bittornado ( http://www.bittornado.com ), install the program on your computer.

Then 'torrent' indexing/search sites such as http://www.isohunt.com , http://www.torrentbox.com , http://www.mininova.org , http://www.thepiratebay.org , and http://www.demonoid.com . Find the item you wish to download and choose to download it/the torrent. You will receive a download option to either save the torrent or open from its current location.. choose to Open.

Once you download a torrent it should automatically open up in your Bittorrent program, and then ask you for a location to save the files (always try and get a hard drive that isnt your program files hard drive so I suggest you have atleast 2 hard drives).

Now the torrent will be downloading, you can choose at speed for your connection, making it lower restricts people downloading from you to a slower speed but this can also hinder you as some people block slower marked connections. Then you wait for the torrent to finish 100%, after this you will only seed the torrent (people download from you) but you are free to cancel the torrent program as you wish.

This shows the torrent as it starts, here the red light means there is currently no one to download from. If this continues, find a better torrent that has a higher number of 'seeds'. A yellow light means it is working but not at full capacity, whereas a green light means all is good and working.

Now for protection I suggest you get your usaul firewall programs running and an IP blocker that will block any reported bad computers such as corporate ones, for this I use Zone Alarm and Protowall.

F.A.Q.
What are seeds?
People that are letting you download from them, the higher number the better.
What are leeches?
Peers (people) that are also downloading, these can be both a good and a bad thing.
Whats the best type of movie type to download? VCD? MP4? DVD?
I find the best type is a DVD Rip Avi file that should be around 700MB. A dvd/vob file and be quite large (4GB) and VCD are restricted to what they can play on (mainly DVD players, not many PCs) and will need to be burnt to CD

Of course, I don't condone this at all, but should you decide to do it then my two pence would be to always, ALWAYS use something like Peer Guardian:
