Looking for insurance for my brother who has his test very soon and I swear to god insurance has turned unreal for 17 yr olds! I knew it had risen a bit for everyone which is fair enough after the shit winter we had and no doubt millions of pounds worth of claims. But seriously... If I was in his shoes I'd be cracking on with two wheels for a bit longer until it starts to drop!

Quotes so far... him as main driver, 52yr old Mum as named, TPFT, 6k miles a year parked on drive at night all with £500 excess!!!

Lupo 1.0 - £3153
1987 Mini City 1000cc - £2687!!!!!
1987 Land Rover Defender 90 - £3749
P reg Ford Ka poverty spec model - £2810
1998 Toyota Starlet SR - £3096
and finally...

1996 ROBIN RELIANT - [size=150:ncohnugw]£2432 <!-- s:o --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_surprised.gif" alt=":o" title="Surprised" /><!-- s:o --> [/size:ncohnugw]

And just tried fronting it (yes I know this is illegal) with Mum as main driver, Harry as named and it dropped the Lupo by like £120 or so! Seriously at a loose end with this, he is really excited about his test and getting on the road but at the moment I dont think its gonna be happening any time soon! Any ideas folks?

What you using to get quotes? Also I would wait til he hits 18, then maybe try a different address. Named drivers also seem to just add to the policy these days with some companies so you might be better off not having an older/experienced named driver

Direct line were fairly good for bog standard cars last time i checked.

Also elephant were decent!

If your looking at minis and reliants etc...... check out classic car companies (footman james eg) with limited mileage like 3,000 miles a year. Helps bring it down loads!

Tryed doing the pass plus?

I used to wokr with a woman who has now become a driving instructor and one of her students (17 or 18 year old male) did the pass plus and got £800 off his insurance... its just 6 extra 1hr lessons after you have passed your test.

Could be worth a try?
