i dont see why people are being a bit arsey. Even if Meganeguy has been "tasked" with talking to us on here who cares? maybe police may be able to understand more why we do what we do.

Police dont need a specific reason to pull you over. And a bunch of young people sitting around together in a bunch of modded cars are going to bring more attention than other things. Granted, it would be better if police had a better attitude to us sometimes but they probably get as much shit as we do sometimes from other people.

Weve all had incidents regarding the law. I have a section 59 for causing "too much noise" in the warwick multi storey car park. This was in my standard 1.1 rover 200 which was even turned off at the time, whilst i was parked next to a nissan 200sx and a golf vr6, both had exhausts. To which i asked why am i getting one when it wasnt my car causing any noise i was told it was due to "assosiciation" with the people causing the noise. the funny thing was both these cars dissapeared up the top exit of the car park to avoid the police, where as i went down to the bottom exit because my thoughts were "i have nothing to hide so why should i run away". I got rewarded with a section 59 and the other cars got away with it.

Other things like my girlfriends house having an attempted burglary, the police wouldnt come as there "were more important issues to deal with at the time." However 1 night sitting outside my house with my cousin, on MY car bonnet, 4 police cars and 2 police vans turn up because they had reports of "kids jumping on and vandalising cars". To say they wernt there very long is an understatement.

Im not particularly fond of the police, but i would never be impolite, they are there to do their job at the end of the day, and most i have come across are actually fine with you, if you are fine to them. Meganeguy i take my hat off to you for doing all this! :)

Lewys - Thanks for the positive comments. I dont think people are being too arsey with me at all - people have gripes about the Police service (as opposed to me as an individual - I hope anyway), which I can handle, as we all have gripes about things. and I can assure you - I am here in my own time, from my own computer, and off my own back. There is nothing more to it than that. Infact, I think you are only the second person I've noticed from Coventry - most are Warwickshire, which is not the force I work for (I work Coventry - I hope that doesnt open another large can of worms!!). Personally, I do understand why people mod their cars - I do myself. I have to admit, your S59 warning sounds a little harsh to me, to be fair.

As for the burglary thing - I can understand the frustration, but (and I really dont want to get too far off topic here) if the incident wasnt on-going (i.e. offenders still on scene) then it is not classed as an 'immediate' response (i.e. blue lights and sirens). In this case the job will be left on the 'open' list and either allocated to an officer when there arent as many immediates stacking up on the list (this is typical on a Friday / Sat night), or a local neighbourhood officer (who tend to work days normally). The reason you had the car and vans turn up to you "jumping on and vandalising" (your own!?) car was probably because you were still there, and whoever had called the Police was still on the phone to them, telling them you were still there. All I will say is that there are some idiots out there who dont like gatherings of 'youths' and will call the Police and fabricate things to get a response - we know they do this and are starting to clamp down on it for wasting Police time!

meganeguy thanks for the reply, i respect that immensely if you are on here because you are a car modder thats great, i know there are some police officers who like fast cars. Unfortunately theres not that many of you! This is why i asked the question :)

Lewys as i stated this is no personal attack on meganeguy at all just the fact that i have a problem with the way that the police in general have an attitude towards the car enthusiast, and nothing can change my mind about that, ive seen too much to believe anything else. like i say i have some good lifetime friends in the force so its not personal!

I think that meganeguys responses are very fair, even if i dont like it thats the way it is!

I do think some people are being rude about it to be fair such as the bacon comments but people have their opinions dont they, i conveyed my feelings and beliefs based on incidents and my experiences rather than just pick on the copper which i believe some are doing because they are sat at a keyboard! id say these things to a police officers face.....because im not (overly) rude about it, although i really say what i think and they may not like it, they normally respect it! Give and take, I have to respect what they say!
Unfortunately on forums and texts the way things come across is a bit off!

its a touchy subject isnt it as most people in this scene have strong feelings about policing etc!

Fishman - everyone has strong feelings about policing - from you guys, to local shop keepers, to little old ladies - they have every right to, as they all want something slightly different from us - God, I have some very strong ideas about how things can and should be done, which is even more frustrating for me because I have had to learn to keep my mouth shut!! I also understand that peoples previous dealings will form the basis of their opinion - I accept that.

Like I say - I have recently got into modding my car (I normally change cars every 2 years, however personal circs mean I couldnt afford to get what I wanted this time around - a new Megane RS250 - so have decided to keep my current one for a bit longer and tweak it a bit to keep it interesting), so have gained a new interest - lets face it you guys (and the guys on the other forum Im a member of [MeganeSport]) are in a better position to offer me advice on things than I am going it alone!

Im used to the insults being made - I am taking it in good humour though as its more directed at the job/uniform than it is at me as a person. Although I have noticed an armchair solicitor, who doesnt seem to know as much as he thinks....

megane 225's are great cars, i did a trackday at llandow with a friend who has one! he had more torque than me to pull him out of the corners and those brembo's oh my god did they stop him! i reckon i could have beaten him at the end of the day but at the beginning he had far more confidence in the braking than i did!

i think they can be remapped to ridiculous bhp really easily, but id work on suspension mods first like polybushing and bracing from what he was saying iirc. its still quite a new car though so i imagine theres not too much developed for it yet!

i personally cant believe how arrogant and rude some people have been in this topic, way to give the 'racers' a name! If thats how you speak to police, you wonder why you get disliked. I actually think meganeguy has shown alot of respect to us, when you think how police normally treat us! Great advice. An to be fair, a policeman, with an intrest in cars, trying to help... Winners all round in my opinion!

I did a rolling road day with some of the Meg forum guys a few weeks ago - there was one there that had a stage 3 map and all the other bits and was pushing out 305bhp. I dont remember his torque figures! Mine was 251bhp with 255ft lb torque, which Im quite happy with at the moment! They handle like they're on rails, and because of the plastic panels (front wings) are a bit lighter too. I had my cam belt done last month (£468) and the next day a service where they found a major fault which is going to cost me nearly £600 to get fixed by Renault....... Im driving it very, very conservatively at the moment!! Next on my list is a K-Tec exhaust and some R26 alloys......
