I agree with Redie Si - they would have to pull everybody from the Army to a load of oldies in there morgans if that convoy thing was true! It's rediculus! And this kind of thing has been going on for ages (The banning meets, etc) Anyone who has been reading mags such as Max Power or Fast Car would know that.

I really would not worry about this new Act/Law or what ever they call it, The courts are allready full.... The last thing they need is to full them with Moddified car drivers!

CALLS are being made to put a guard-controlled gate across a north Warwickshire road to thwart boy racers from holding high-speed car rallies.

Government minister Mike O'Brien, the Bedworth-based MP for the North Warwickshire constituency, says he fears an innocent family travelling in their car could soon be hit by "one of these lunatics".

He has called on companies based at the Hams Hall Business Park, near Coleshill, to place a guard-controlled gate on the open stretch of road leading on to the park.

Mr O'Brien said villagers in nearby Curdworth had been plagued at weekends by boy racers who came from all over the country, directed to Hams Hall by internet websites.

He said: "The noise is bad enough for local residents, but the sheer madness of some racers is shown by some starting their races on the Curdworth Bridge over the motorway and two cars speeding down to the A446, around the roundabout and into the entrance to Hams Hall.

"At some stage an innocent family driving along the A446 will be hit by one of these lunatics.

"The police have responded by putting extra officers on the road and arrests have been made.

"I am very grateful, but the police cannot keep officers there every weekend."

He said there used to be a gate when Hams Hall was a power station.

"I have talked to the companies about a gate at the entrance to the Hams Hall Business Park to stop the racing.
"The gate would need to be staffed, particularly at weekends."

Mr O'Brien has met Frank Rogers, of power company E.ON, who is co-ordinating the companies at Hams Hall.

The MP said: "A recent survey of the companies on the site had shown that security is a concern.

"The new business park has had problems with security so there is a strong argument to restrict those entering the site.

"Certainly those racing cars should not be able to get in."

The cost of a staffed gate would be "significant", probably £150,000.

But Mr O'Brien added: "The problems being caused by a lack of a gate are also considerable and spreading the cost between the 23 companies should make it manageable.

"Even if the gate was for a year or two it would force the boy racers to go away.
"The companies are considering the issue."

theres noway a gate can be erected without 1st building a new roundabout... on the 1st stretch enterering the estate a gate would leave the residents of hams lane stuck with a dead end and no where for trucks to turn

again on the 2nd straight where every one "drives" there is no room again for a turning point for the artic trucks

Fresh powers target 'boy racers'
New powers have been given to police to crack down on drivers who hold races in a Warwickshire industrial estate.
A dispersal notice was granted to the county police and North Warwickshire Borough Council for the area around the Hams Hall estate in Coleshill.

It means that anyone deemed by police to be causing a nuisance can be ordered to leave the area.

Warks Police Sgt Alan Bamford said he was aware of the distress people living nearby felt during "cruising events".

BUSINESS leaders are hoping a new initiative will crack down on car racing and anti-social behaviour plaguing a Midland industrial estate.

The West Midlands’ latest business improvement district (BID) has been established in Coleshill to help safeguard companies from nuisance behaviour.

The scheme has been agreed by 28 companies on the Hams Hall Business Park, and will raise £400,000 over the next three years to improve conditions on the site.

According to the Hams Hall Business Association, which has been campaigning to set up the BID, businesses now plan to install surveillance cameras to eliminate car racing and anti-social behaviour which have become a problem on the park.

They say the nuisance behaviour puts businesses and employees in danger and causes a disturbance to surrounding villages and neighbourhoods.

Businesses have been working with the police, Warwickshire County Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council to investigate solutions.

Frank Rodgers, commercial manager at E.ON and chairman of the BID group, said: “This really is great news for Hams Hall. Working together to eliminate the problems faced by our employees and business colleagues on a regular basis, we are raising over £400,000, including contributions from the public bodies.

“We have studied schemes in other locations which have stopped the problems immediately and we are planning to do the same here.

‘‘This is good news for businesses and residents alike and we all look forward to a safer and cleaner future.”

Coun Peter Fowler, the county council’s portfolio holder for economic development and local member for Coleshill, said: “This BID is one of several developed as part of the Warwickshire BIDs programme and is the first in the country for a high-profile business park.”

i like the word hoping it means they are dreaming... swear that gate was only costin 150k now its 400k on cameras? erm there already is cameras has it stopped NO
