if you know the story already no need to read on!

I have had a very bad experience with a House of Kolor approved bodyshop, and felt the need to get the message out to as many modified car enthusiasts as possible. I will try and keep the message as short as possible, sorry if it's a read but EVERYONE who values their pride and joy should read my experience.

I gave my 2004 New Beetle Cabriolet to Devils Ride at the start of August last year. The job was to fit an RSi kit, smooth various parts of the car and give it a full respray in House of Kolor products. Derek who is the main man at DR said this was no problem. The car had one over 13 awards and featured in magazines three times. The car was/is my pride and joy.

Problems started to arise when I wasn't receiving alot of information or photos about the progress of the car. The original time scale was to be four months. When I questioned this I was told various stories which turned out to be blatent lies, and the fact of the matter was he was working on other cars when mine should have been worked on. I done everything my end of the bargin, paid a hefty deposit, we originally agreed on a quote which he tried upping, I created some design work for him to be knocked off the bill which I stuck to.

When the original pick up date arrived, I was fobbed off with there's a few problems etc. Been ill etc, etc. This went on for four whole months and was told a complete pack of lies. We lost around £800 in loss of earnings, having to cancel van and trailer hire, fuel (he was three hours drive way).Obviously I started to get really pissed off at this, and because the deadline was pushed back so much other things were too.

I really wanted this car finished for Ultimate Dubs 2009, as it was booked to be on the Meguiars stand for it's debut (I showed alot with those guys). It was also booked into Rayvern for air ride and also had to reschedule my date with Ray because of Derek because of what happened below.

My dad and I left home extremely early on a Saturday morning with a van and trailer to pick the car up as I was told it was finished and deliver it to Ray. 15 minutes from arriving at Derek's unit we were told on the phone that it was finished. This was a week before Ultimate Dubs and I was livid. We arrived at the unit and I went straight into see the car.

The paint was horrific, overspray, doors didn't align, the doors were so wavy that a pro surfer would have been right at home. Black overspray on one of the rear quarters, bolts holding the wings on were missing, alarm didn't work as they tried to fit auto closure and total messed it up, with the car not even being secure at all. The skirts didn't align. I was mortified. I had to leave the car with the window open to get into it because the door handles were shaved. Derek's answer to this was "can't you take it to Ray, show it, then bring it back?" Seriously WTF...

Basically my car was unusable. He then said to get Ray to sort the air and deliver it back and he'd pay the cost.

After wondering whether to end his life there and then, we then missed our slot with Ray trying to get the car fired up as it was totally dead. I called Ray and we managed to get the car in the following day. Another drama that I didn't need as I had to hire the van and trailer for another day, and more fuel etc etc.

Ray worked his magic and finished the car in about 2/3 days. As Derek offered to pay to trailer it back up, I was very wary about whether to say yes, so a conversation with Ray and Derek, a deal was struck that Ray would deliver the car and Derek would pay him on arrival. Simple. I told Derek exactly what was happening and to pay Ray on arrival, he agreed, said no problem at all.

Ray done as promised, and Derek ended up knocking Ray for over £200 there and then. He only had £80 - complete c**t. Ray took that but I looked a complete mug to Ray and paid him as soon as possible. I then called Derek and had it out with him on the phone. Al Derek said was "he's a grown man, he'll *ing get over it". I lost the plot understandably.

I ended up missing the show as Derek didn't finish the car as promised. Dad and I went up to collect the car two weeks AFTER the show, and yet again, about 20 minutes from arrival Derek called and said the car wasn't finished. That's the last thing you want to hear after a 3 hour drive towing.

The bug was mildly better, but not worthy of showing at all! Luckily for me I got away quite well regarding the financies, but I still had what once was a cover car and show winning motor that I couldn't even use, let alone bear to look at.

I now have the car in at K at Xquisites being rectified. I didn't hear from Derek since this until earlier today when a pal of mine emailed me to say that Devils Ride are using a picture of my car in their ad which was printed in Custom Car magazine. I took this as another major piss take from Derek, and called them up. The answer phone at the unit said they was on holiday, so I called their mobile.

His missus answers and says he's at the unit spraying (WTF!!!??) I tell them it's a proper cheek that they basically wrecked my car and are now using an image of MY car without any permission in their ad. They told me to * off and hung up on me.

So spread the word on anyone who wishes to have work done on their car to steer well clear of Devils Ride and their bullsh*t attitude to peoples property, workmanship and attitude

had a similar experience with a company in coventry. told it would be fast and cheap. if you look at the 'quality' on the respray on the near side wing and front bumper you'll see. plus it cost 100 quid more than getting the back bumper and skirts sprayed at a mates garage. they didn't even prep the front bumper and now the pasint's flaking off. makes you feel crap. you have my sympathies mate
