Number plate transfer

wondering if anyone can shed some light on this

basically, what i want to do...
my old car will soon be scrapped, but i want to have the registration from it put onto my new car...
its not a personalised one, just the original S reg one its always had
ive read on the dvla website that plates can be transfered from car to car for £80... however it also says that plates cannot be resurrected from cars that no longer exist...
not really sure which applies...

transfer it before the car gets scrapped then cos once a car is scrapped the number plate along with does not exist so it would be effectively coloning a car

can pay to have it put on retention cant you?

d5val wrote: why dont you just pay the £80 to transfer the plate you want to your new car, get all the docs changed then ask the dvla for any plate of the same year to go on the old car, once all new doc recieved for both cars you can then go and scrap the old car

what then happens with the reg for my current car? is it somehow still related to the car?

im affraid i sent my old baby to the scrappers though without transfering the reg
although i do have the actual plates as a trophy sad times
