TINTED WINDOWS - Laws & Penalties...???

As far as I knew it you were allowed tints past the B pillar on cars (front windows) as long as they let in 70% light so just a 30% tint...
Tonight, I've been told many different things, such as your not allowed any tint on the front windows and that you can get 3 points per window for tints on the front?!?!?!
I dont fancy having to rip my tints off at the side of the road, as far as I was aware all they would give you is a Vehicle Defect notice, which requires you to remove the tints and have a MOT test station approve that this has been done and stamp the piece of paper, which you then take to your local police station.
What is everyones views on this then? Please tell me whatever you know, as I like the tints on my new car and dont fancy taking them off...but I dont fancy 6 fucking points!!! <!-- s:evil: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_evil.gif" alt="

Must let through 70% of light on front windows, bearing in mind most if not all front windows will not let through 100% of light from factory, to be honest even most light smoke tints wont pass the test they do, however if you're not taking the biscuit you're obviously less likely to be pulled

If Pacman had affected us as kids we'd be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

most decent tinters know the law, and how dark to do it. if you want legal ones, ask for them, if you get pulled, take it back to the tinters and give them some shit for stitchin you up and make them pay the fine lol

* behind the B Post (ie rear passenger windows and rear screen) there are no limits
* side windows in front of the B Post (ie front passenger windows) must allow 70% of light through
* front windscreens must allow 75% of light through
Be careful whether the tint you are considering blocks 70% of light or allows through 70% of light. For front windows the regulations are about the amount of light that is allowed through. Also be aware that if you have a factory tint that blocks 10%, you will only be able to block an additional 20%
