Blue 501 Sidelights? was created by Hodge
Hi everyone,

Just installed some new Xenon effect bulbs to my headlights... they also came with some 501 sidelight bulbs which have a blue tint to them, which I've also installed...

Are these blue 501 sidelights legal?

If someone could advise me on this, it would be great.

Cheers,

Hodge

if they came with legal xenon bulbs i would assume they are legal but having said that i think most blue bulbs are for off road use.
does it not say on any packaging? should be some sort of "E" mark if they are legal i think too.
I wouldnt think that even if they are for off road use you would get any trouble unless they are ridiculously blue

Yeah, both sets of bulbs are E marked (from what I can see), and they're not outrageously blue - they're sort of the same colour as the LED daytime running lights that you get on new Audis. I just don't want to get pulled by the Polizei and face a fine/points.

Haha cheers mate - they look even better with the Xenons in!

I think I'm going to take the blue ones out for the time being and revert to white ones, then show the blue ones to a mate who's a Police Officer, and see what verdict he gives me before I put them in again.

If they're E-marked you'll be fine.

Well, in the end I decided to leave them in - and I've just driven over to work in Telford in Shropshire with the sidelights on all the way - passed 3 patrol cars on the way at about 30mph, and none of them seemed worried, so it seems cool. A lot of the time it's down to the discretion of the Office, I think.
