Sonys headunits have always been great in my opinion, always had them until recently when I swapped to Pioneer (only because of the double din options)
Only thing I dont rate from Sony is their speakers!

So what's better out the 3 pioneer, Sony or jvc? Or is it just down to the user preference

obviously personal preference is a major factor, but I would never have a head unit that isnt sony now. I have had 5, with an alpine in the middle and i sold it within 2 weeks and went back to sony!

Sony?! Noooooooooo
Home audio and entertainment yeah but not car audio
Headunits - Alpine, Pioneer and Clarion
6x9's can be pretty good for bass if you amp them properly. Don't skimp out on speakers you get what you pay for, thats why in our cars you find Bose, bang and oulsen(spelling?) and so on, highly expensive systems but will show up any boy racer with his car full of speakers and subs lol.

^ prime example of personal preference lol.
sony for me are just easy to use and set-up, good sound quality and power and just all round the best ive had.
my perfect system now would be a sony head unit, decent coponents in each corner (door) all amped, and then an amped underseat sub (most come with a built in amp). That would for me be the best solution for space and sound quality!

Are you putting either through an amp? I'd have probably not bothered with the cost of components if your not using an amp. Head unit output is very minimal.
