Car Battery? was created by LuM
ok right, this has got to the point now where im getting VERY annoyed.
battery on car used to be fine until i left the hazzard lights on for half an hour whilst unloading some stuff into house.
anyway more to the point. Had to charge my car battery as it was flat, once battery was fully charged popped it back in again, all fine and dandy for about 2 and half days... tried to start car.. DEAD.
Now its gotten to the point where i have to re-charge my car battery every 2-3 days. It just seems to go dead overnight, everything is off, interior lights etc etc....
anyone help so i dont have to spend a lot of money, its only a run around car whilst my gtti is off the road.
Cheers

Sounds like you might just have to replace it, take it to Halfords and they should do a free battery test for you which will most likely tell you that you need a new one (dont buy it from them though, tell them your going to get the cash and then dont go back <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="
" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->), is there a date on it? Only other thing it could be is the alternator, which is possible if its goin flat after 2 or 3 days as theres always something having a slight drain on it (alarm etc?) and its not being charged back up, unless its the earth or something?

If Pacman had affected us as kids we'd be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

To check the alternator, get a multimeter and get someone to get the revs up (around 2500), use the multimeter on the battery and it should read around 13.8v-14.2v if thats less then the alternator is faulty.

i agree with jamie,we get lots of batteries that dont hold charge well.when a battery is left to go completely flat it often doesnt want to hold full charge again, thats why you use an alternator to top it up all the time, deffo recommend checking your alternator though as a long journey should be ample to top your battery back up to full.

ok right, i decided to take a look into my car battery yesterday and noticed that the distilled water was VERY low...
i filled it up, and trickle charged it. Seems fine atm, but still got another day to go. Maybe the battery is knackered... i have no idea, just dont want to spend money on this car, as its a freebie until i get my GTti back :d

you could always go down the scrap yard and see if there is a donor car for a battery and if needed a alternator?
