Hi all,
Well, as mentioned in my intro thread, I said that I was looking for some 18" alloys for my car and I think I've found some (well a look anyways) that I like:
Sadly, these Volk (Rays) TE37SL Black Editions are WAAAAAAY to expensive for me (roughly £3k for the set and that's without any rubber). So I'm currently looking at alternatives and I've seen that Rota do Grid Drifts which I'm liking a lot especially since the spokes are more concaved compared to the Volks:
This is where I'm hoping for some advice:
1) Firstly, I've seen very similar wheels to the Rotas and Volks like Inovit Asuka Racing, who do a ST16 wheel which seems to have 2 versions, and Dotz, who do a GT-R wheel, that both seem to be a lot lot cheaper, has anyone had any experience with Inovit Asuka Racing or Dotz wheels before? Why are they so much cheaper than Rotas which are already cheap alternatives to Volks etc?
One version of the Asuka Racing ST16
Another version of the Asuka Racing ST16 (less concave, more holes and stickers)
Dotz GT-R
2) To replicate a similar look to the Volks, I'm looking for a black wheel but with a polish lip around the outside which I'm struggling to find, Rota do do one but they're not available here in the UK. One of the main distributors of Rota wheels could order them in but only if they order in 40 sets so they can't order just the one set in just for me so I'm guna have to probably get these custom painted. Question is, how much do you reckon this would cost and do you guys know of any places that could do this around Warwickshire? Do you think if I was to get a black wheel that they could just machine around the lip or would the whole wheel still need stripping and re-painted?
3) Or should I just go white?
4) Again to replicate the odd spoke style, would you get a sticker for this? Vinyl Wrapped? Plastic Dipped? Or possibly painted if I was to get the polish at the same time?
Any advice and opinions would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advanced,
Keith

Rota grids are quite popular so you should be able to find a decent second hand set quite easily and save yourself a few pennies.

Dotz have been around for a while they were just a cheaper wheel and are quite a good wheel make buddy you find most alloys are made in the same factory as are tyres then diff company's put there name on it I've seen it done before unless they are like a really light weight racing wheel as such .rays are generally always on jap cars I think as they are a lighter wheel so are good for drifting and things buddy as for colour they both look pretty good to be fair and there are a lot of alloy wheel places that could do either of what u want mate just do some digging on a place first to see what there work is like. but as said see if there are any second hand rays going if that's what ur after sure there will be some knocking about somewhere then get them refurbed

Hmmmm thanks guys, not luck off Driftworks....even tried gumtree....it's difficult enough trying to get wheels with a 5x100 fitments in the size that I want, never mind trying to track down a set of second hand limited edition Volks......probably just guna stick with Rotas.
Mocked these up:
White Rota Grid Drifts with vinyl wrapped spoke
Black Rota Grid Drifts with vinyl wrapped spoke
Black with polished lip Rota Grid Drifts with vinyl wrapped spoke
