i used to use the cable that comes with the 360 for my internet. is it just a ethernet cable that i could buy from PC World? or is it actually a special cable designed for the xbox?

Yeah plain old RJ45 Ethernet cable
Buy a plu & play kit for the wireless controller too, it rocks, and saves the world from a AA battery shortage - unless all the new ones are rechargeable now?
