IRC?

I'm not sure where this might be best put, but I've gone for this one as it's, er, geeky...

IRC. It seems to me that there's so much chat going on in the Daily Chat thread that it'd warrant an IRC channel/server with a Java applet for access outside of mIRC and the like.

What's everyone think?

Somewhere I should have the code for a Java front end which will connect straight to an IRC server. As it's all plain text it shouldn't put too much strain - the IRC servers I used to use ran hundreds of channels and rarely failed. Alternatively we could use someone elses IRC server.

In any case, PM me if you like and I'll see if I can find it.

Two questions: 1) Would my Internet filter at work let me use this? 2) Would it eliminate the daily chat thread cos I like catching up of a morning! [Not like I'm supposed to be flogging aeroplane fasteners or anything...]

Bluefox, we did look into this, but that was when we had less members. But im sure we'll look into it now.

It should, unless your IT crowd have blocked a couple of ports.
