Just a suggestion (and as you said it can't look much worse) try and find a matchingish shade of the red, rub the laquers back adjacent, touch in with the matching ish with a few coats, let it dry rub back again and then blow over with laquer.

Only other thing would be graphisc to distract the eye away from it.

ouch that dont look good at all! my mates got metal flake on his VVC, he decided one day to reverse in pub car park and put a beer keg down the side of it... right if the scratches dissapear when there wet (use a wet cloth bit of spit etc) theres a chance they will come out with a specialist type of polish, theres a paint shop in kenilworth called clintons somthing or other (not clintons garage!) they done my mates and you cant see where it was, im not saying yours will look perfect but it might make them less obvious. also you could use some kind of vynal desighn to cover them, look at my old focus (gritters focus now) a full vynal rap can come under a grand and in my opinion if done properly makes a car stand out like a whore in a church. last option is obviously a re spray ask around on here theres a few of us in the trade im sure some one knows someone willing to do a cash in hand job if you supply the paint.
