How To Fibreglass was created by richie
basically in this guide im going to show you how to get an understanding of making stuff out of fibreglass.
in this guide ive choose the door pockets on a corsa b and making a speaker pod in them
what you need:
1) Fibreglass mat £4
2) Fast glass resin £6
3) hardner £3
4) jug £0.40
5) paintbrush £1
6) stirring stick
7) rubber gloves £1
body filler (i used isopon p38 £10)
9) different grades of sand paper
10) spray adhesive £5 of ebay
11) scissors
note: items 1 to 7 can be brought in a kit for £12 from halfords
step 1:
make your frame ideally MDF is best.
step 2:
cover the frame in material sticking it with spray adhesive i tried suede and felt and both worked doing this will give you nice contours and curves in your mould.
in this case i made sure that my speaker fitted in the hole before proceeding if it doesnt fit nows your time to make the adjustments
step 3:
cut your fibreglass mat into pieces this will make it easier to get the shape you need.
step 4:
pour out a bit of resin into the jug and add hardner its 100ml to 2cm of hardner mix it well. (only pour out what you need as it will start to set and go hard)
step 5:
Wear your gloves as this part is really sticky and its hard to get of your fingers! using your brush paste the piece of fibreglass mat in resin and apply to the mould keep doing this until covered (basially its like paper mache)
step 6:
wait for it to go hard leave it a good couple of hours
step 7:
trim rough edges scissors work well
step 8:
now to get a smooth finish using the body filler get a good size amount and with hardner mix it together well. the using a spreader spread it onto the mould leave for it to dry.
step 9:
once dry sand it off using a meduim corse sand paper to get it smooth. you will have to repeat this a few times keep filling with filler then sanding off to get rid of the imperfections and air pockets
step 10:
once you are happy with the finished result its now time to either cover it or spray it
and heres mine

It looks to me like felt underneath the fibreglass and suede on top to finish... but could be wrong!
Edit: Why? You want suede in your car? You can get faux suede. Easier to use and cheaper. What are you up to? ¬¬

right to get your answers
i did use faux suede to recover the door pockets
i used felt and suede for fibreglass
and i brought the suede of ebay £3.99 a metre and 150cm wide and i have also retrimmed my door cards in suede
(if you need some i can send you the link to the person i brought it off)
