There is power to it as the eject button and light behind the face off panel light up but go off when the face off is taken off. It also bleeps through the speakers when the face off is left on but the ignition switched off.
Could the guy have given me the wrong face off panel or could it just be knackered?
Doesnt seem like a fuse as it has power

It could still be a fuse, theres normally two wires - ignition and constant power. It sounds like the constant power has gone as the ignition will light it up when you turn the key

Surely it's only it'd only do that if there was a +ve going down the illumination wire?
My money's on the HU being knackered; Sony's normally only beep when there's 12v at both ign and perm lives. Have you got a multimeter or test lamp?
