mk2 astra GT/E convertible restoration was created by astrasonly
Right, going to start a thread on my GTE convertible that I am restoring. The history goes like this - brought the car back in 97 its on a k plate 93 one of the last mk2 s. Had various bits done over the years from engine transplants to full stealth body kits. Last driven about 9 years ago and has followed me around from job to job and house to house. So last December (2012) decidedto have hee resprayed for the summer. When checking over the car, rust/ corrosion reared its ugly head and turned the respray into a full restoration. This is how she looked when work first started in December

The first thing I got onto was removing the engine, wheels and the rest of the trims inside and out. That's when space in my garage got tight. Further inspection of rust/ rot then took place. Inner wheel arch turrets onthe front needed welding and both front chassis leg riggers where the first to be welded. Then under bath head lamps due th damage when removing the old bumper.

While that's all happenings some pannels got a make over and some paint thrown at them. All pannels had surface rust. Nothing to major. Got treated with acid then a good coating of rust cure hammer rite to harden any remaining rust then etch primed then treated to a dose of red oxide paint.

Once all done as far as I can at home, came the time to take it to work for final paint. Primed and painted the original colour carabic blue paint code 277D. Mean while in the evenings at home scouring eBay , found front and rear bumpers as mine were thrown years ago.original side skirts, boot lid, door cards as mine had rotted, and a whole lot of other bits and pieces inside and out.

So this is where I am at the moment. As you will see almost rebuilt just bits and pieces to do. Wheels refurbished calipers coded, interior carpets dyed (look like new) engine ready to start less manifold gasket. A few little bits to do at work. Hope to bring home 28 th with her running. All comments welcome good or bad as it's the bad ones that make the improvements!!!!
