'Daddy Wagon' advice! was created by lewys
Right guys, here is a lil' discussion and advice topic for people to chew on!
I currently have a 1.8t mk4 3 door golf, and if people didnt know, me and the wifey are expecting a lil'un to turn up around the 24th January!
Anyway, after listening to a few people say "oh 3 doors aint that bad to get kids in!" I decided to buy my golf, nice looking, 1.8t so quite nippy, heated leather seats (amazing btw!) what could possibly be bad?!
Well firstly, coilovers ..... not going to be the best for a newborn! Secondly i attempted to fit the child seat over the weekend, and yh ...... it can be done. But serious leg room is lost in the front to get the child seat in the back, and not just that ...... EFFORT climbing in and out the back of the car to get the seat in and out!
So I have decided that mid-march when my insurance for this year runs out, and when i have got sick and tired of climbing in and out the back of the car that im going to get my own daddy wagon!
So has anyone got any recommendations on a particular daddy wagon? Here is my criteria:
- Has to be comfortable! no crappy seats (i dont think i can have a car now without heated leathers!)
- Has to be reasonably quick! (my last 2 cars have been turbos in the region of 200-300bhp so i dont want no 1.6 non turbo diesel shed!)
- price range probably 2k-4k
- no ridiculous high mileage! and no cars with no SH either! i would rather pay a bit more for a decent motor!
- insurance isnt a major issue anymore, as im 22 with 5 years ncb so as long as it isnt a ferrari or a scooby sti i should be fine!
so on your marks ....... get set ...... GO!
p.s. My first thought was a mondeo st220, big car, comfy, toys galore, enough power to keep me sane, the only issue that puts me off is that its a 3.0 v6 so it is hardly going to be good on fuel! Anybody got any thoughts on them?

Never knew you had a little'un on the way, congrats
Anything mondeo related Bee would be the one to talk to! In fact any of the parents of WM should be able to give you hints, Ed, Zoe, Bee, Valerie, and Woody - he managed fine with his a megane and DC5 etc with a baby/child seat, just leave it in there though instead of taking it in and out, so I wouldnt rule out 3 doors completely (just one not on coilovers lol).
I would say get an estate, but for just one child thats a bit overkill Although from a modding perspective, you dont see many about and they can look cool

i did think about a subaru. any pics of some decent looking ones? (bar jonb's obviously lol)
i wouldnt mind an a4, but they seem to be ridiculously expensive compared to other cars! to get a 1.8t a4 without moon mileage is twice the price of my golf, and what would it be for? id be getting the same car (if not worse, as the engine in this golf is pretty decent!) just slower, and with more doors!
